Nelson Mandela International Day

Nelson Mandela Museum Exhibit

There is still opportunity to visit the Nelson Mandela Exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Museum until August 1, from Thursday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. but you must sign up for tickets online.  Sunday, July 18, is celebrated as Mandela’s International Day, and the Museum is offering an opportunity to view the Exhibit for free from 2 to 4 p.m. but again you need to sign up online, since they limit the number of people at any one time and you are required to wear a mask. On this same day, people around the World are encouraged to take the My Mandela Pledge, agreeing to spend 67 minutes in service to others.  Sixty seven minutes represents the 67 years Mandela spent fighting for Social Justice.

Here are a few suggestions on ways the time can be spent in community service:  Donate time or buy food to give to a local food pantry; collect supplies for a nearby school; help out a neighbor with yard work; pick up trash in your neighborhood or local park; make and send cards to a senior care facility; or any other way to be of service to others.

If you have seen the Mandela Exhibit and are interested in discussing the exhibit with others use the website http://www.mpm.edu to find Community check-ins to find how to sign up. The last one is scheduled for Wednesday, July 21, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. They are held virtually.
