Teaching us at our Mass in the Park

REMEMBERING FATHER JACK KERN, by Don Richards
For many of us our lasting memory of Father Jack
will be seeing him quietly concelebrating Mass,
and knowing that this was but a continuation
of his life of service and commitment to
social justice in Milwaukee and in the
whole world; we pray with you now
Father Jack, and each time we
enter Sunday worship, to re
new as we can, our world
—without end, and for-
ever—“Do I hear an
Amen?”

Father Jack Kern served as pastor of St. Catherine parish for ten years. On June 15, 2014 Fr. Jack retired from active ministry. We fondly remember Fr. Jack for what we learned from him. Here are just a few of his favorite “lessons”

The doors of the church open out

“Do not be afraid” is Scripture’s most repeated phrase

Jesus is in the face of all we meet, especially the poor

Baby Jesus does grow up

Funerals are for the living

We are the resurrected Body of Christ

The Acts of the Apostles….is our story

Community means Common Unity

There is nothing ordinary about Ordinary Time

Good Shepherds smell like their sheep because they live with them

We pray not to change God’s mind, but to change our mind…and our heart

“Mission Territory” can be found just outside of our comfort zone

We build…..God’s Kingdom here….and now

Church … Ch UR ch

THANK YOU FATHER JACK FOR BEING OUR GOOD SHEPHERD! SEE YOU AROUND THE BLOCK … PEACE
