The Second Sunday in Lent
Sunday, February 28, 2021
My Dear Friends in Christ,
Lent is a time to reform our lives by moving closer to our Lord through listening and giving witness to God’s incarnate Word. Our Lord’s transfiguration strengthens us in our quest for union with God. Today we ask ourselves: in which area of our lives do we need to be transformed?
On this Second Sunday in Lent, our Lord invites us to deal with those attitudes, events and situations that prevent the Lord’s light from shining in and through us. It is about going into our inner room to converse with God about what we want to change and what we want to become.
See below the offerings from staff to prepare for Sunday Mass and for Lent.
Anticipate Sunday, February 28
- Mass Readings, Music and Prayer – The scripture readings for Sunday are about God’s covenants and Jesus’ temptations. We’ll have a special song this Sunday, written by our own Bernadette Davel and Mary Utschig, called “The Covenant Song.” It refers to covenants between God and Noah, Abraham, and Moses and the new law brought to us by Jesus. Doug has prepared the music menu for Sunday.
- Scripture Reflection – Jon Metz offers this reflection to help us to think about surrendering to God and a mountaintop moment.
- Family Formation – Margaret Lee presents resources to help families commit to discipleship on their Lenten journey.

The First Sunday in Lent
Sunday, February 21, 2021
My Dear Friends in Christ,
As we enter the First Sunday of Lent, we hear that Jesus was tempted and was able to overcome those temptations. How we deal with temptation can define who we are. Jesus was able to overcome them because he had a constant connection with the Father through prayer.
Lent is a time we are called to go deeper into that connection with God. My article in the bulletin this week tells about praying the Daily Examen of St. Ignatius of Loyola. I suggest trying this prayer so this Lent may be fruitful and your connection with God may be strong.

The Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Sunday, February 14, 2021
My Dear Friends in Christ,
As we celebrate the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Gospel tells us of a man with leprosy who came to Jesus begging, “If you wish, you can make me clean.” As you prepare for Lent, take time to ask Jesus to make you clean and to reflect more deeply on what is separating you from God and others. Although the man with leprosy was “empty” in so many ways, Mark’s Gospel portrays him as “full” of faith. We are called to be like this man who never doubted Jesus.
What are you bringing to the collective responsibility of your faith community? Jesus brought prayer and cared of those who were suffering. Those two actions together are all we need. Like the man with leprosy and his community, our community is not whole until we are each healed, restored to wholeness and returned to the community.
See below the offerings from staff to prepare for Sunday Mass.

We will no longer sing “Alleluia” for five weeks after this Sunday, so we will enjoy the festive music while we can.
- Reflection – Fr Colman offers a reflection on the gospel.

The Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Sunday, February 7, 2021
My Dear Friends in Christ,
We encounter Jesus in our daily lives in three ways: first, Jesus is alive in His Word, the inspired Gospel stories and the living tradition of our church; second, we meet Jesus in the sacraments, especially in regular participation in both the Eucharist and the sacrament of reconciliation; and third, we meet Jesus in our loving service to those in need, those who live on the periphery of society.
Through these encounters with Jesus we are healed and set free – not so we can simply live life our way – but so we build the kingdom of God by spreading the Christian message, a message of hope and love. All of us are given this mission. We simply need to discern our calling and our purpose each day.
