Reflection for May 10, 2020 – Fifth Sunday of Easter

By Deacon Ralph Kornburger

“The stone which the builders rejected, has become the cornerstone.”

Recently I officiated at the funeral for my cousin’s mother, who reached the age of 99. She used to be a member of St. Catherine’s parish, and years before her death, she made it known, I want you, Ralph, to do my funeral. Over the course of years, her expectation was voiced regularly.

While reflecting upon the word cornerstone, I found myself thinking of cornerstones, which have been graced moments for me; husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, railroad engineer, deacon at St. Catherine parish, and most importantly – child of God – nurtured by the sacramental cornerstone laid down perfectly by Christ Jesus.

What are some of the cornerstones that have guided your life?

Who have been cornerstones in your life?

Where have cornerstones challenged your preconceived ideas?
