January 2022 Masses

The Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sunday, January 30, 2022
My Dear Friends in Christ,

As Christians, it is not what other people do to us, but how we respond to their actions. When life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to have a good nature, until you get rattled. When life gets tough, what spills over? Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? Or anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions? You choose!

Remember, in our baptism we received three offices: as priests we bring people closer to God; as prophets we speak the divine truth; and as kings we lead according to God’s will. No matter the rejection we face in our life, we should not stop doing what is right, because the love of God surpasses all that. In this Sunday’s second reading Paul preaches the more excellent way, the way of love.

Spend some time with the offerings below from staff to prepare for Sunday Mass. And check out the opportunities below.

The Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sunday, January 23, 2022
My Dear Friends in Christ,

In the Gospel, we hear that Jesus went to his home town, entered the synagogue and read the scroll saying, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.” Lk. 4:18-19. Jesus is telling us his mission on Earth.

The beauty and richness of a stewardship way of life is that no one is expected to do it all. God simply asks us to share the gifts and talents we do have at this place and in this time. Do your part; let your brothers and sisters in the Body of Christ do theirs; and know that the Spirit of the Lord is upon us all as we live out this stewardship way of life.

The Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sunday, January 16, 2022
My Dear Friends in Christ,

In our world today, we may not want to show others that we are Christians, because we want to be neutral. Let us invite Christ in our homes and our lives without shame, and, like he did at the wedding in Cana, Christ will transform our shame into celebration.

Inviting Jesus into our home could be the most important thing we ever do. As we begin this New Year of 2022, let Jesus’ presence fill our homes and be felt by all those who visit us. Remember, home is our first school where we learn to love, to care for each other and to forgive. This much I know – when you invite Jesus into your home, you’re never going to be the same again.

Spend some time with the offerings below from staff to prepare for Sunday Mass. And check out the opportunities below.

The Baptism of our Lord

Sunday, January 9, 2022
My Dear Friends in Christ,

This Sunday we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord. Christians believe Jesus was baptized so he could be in solidarity with us, though without sin. We reflect on our own baptism as the beginning of our acceptance to do the will of the Father.  We become God’s beloved sons and daughters and are called to be in solidarity with others.

On this day we consider how we can do the will of the Father. Solidarity calls us to love our neighbors locally and across the world in concrete ways by acknowledging inequalities that exist, seeking justice for all. Sometimes we focus more on what divides us, but the pandemic and other disasters have taught us that we are far more interconnected than we had previously imagined.

Spend some time with the offerings below from staff to prepare for Sunday Mass. And check out the opportunities below.

The Epiphany of our Lord

Sunday, January 2, 2022
My Dear Friends in Christ,

This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles as represented by the Magi. The Magi represent the people from the East. The Jews were not the only ones who were looking for a great king to bring peace on Earth.

Epiphanies are all around us if we are open to them. Jesus reveals himself in various ways and invites us to respond to his love like the wise men did. But too many people do not grow in their knowledge and experience of God. We don’t need to travel far like the Magi seeking Jesus; God with us, “Emmanuel.” He lives in each one of us and in nature.

Spend some time with the offerings below from staff to prepare for Sunday Mass. And check out the opportunities below.

Anticipate Sunday, January 2

  • Mass Readings – The scripture readings for Sunday proclaim the expectation of light and hope.
  • Music Selection – Doug presents the music menu for Sunday Mass as we hear of the magi finding their way to the Christ Child.
