Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Sunday, October 25, 2020
My Dear Friends in Christ,
On this Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time we hear, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” How does this apply to us in our lives today?
Sometimes the smallest things done with love can make the biggest impact. Try it this week—make an impact on someone’s life – for it is in loving that we give glory to God. And it is in loving that we find meaning in our own lives. Below are offerings to help find this message in your life.

Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Sunday, October 18, 2020
My Dear Friends in Christ,
In today’s gospel we hear Jesus being asked by the Herodians and the Pharisees: “Is it against our Law to pay taxes to the Roman Emperor, or not?” And Jesus replies, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what belongs to God.” What is God’s anyway? Everything. We owe God everything!
We bear God’s own image. From God we receive all that we are and have. If paying to God what is God’s means everything, it must mean putting God first in our lives. Jesus understood and taught that we must give God the first fruits, out of gratitude. This grateful giving of the first fruits is based on the truth that everything comes from God, thus everything belongs to God.
Anticipate Sunday, October 18
- Liturgy and Music – Our Gospel reading this week reminds us, in Jesus’s words, that we can live in a secular world and remain true to our faith in God. This seems most relevant in our current social climate. Here are the music selections for this week. As you read and listen to the scripture readings think about how you make decisions.
- Adult & Teen Formation – Minister Margaret Lee presents reflection questions to help us think about each of Sunday’s readings and how we carry out God’s will.
- Reflection – Fr Colman presents his thoughts on giving to Caesar.
