Deacon Ralph Kornburger Reflection – July 19, 2020

Deacon Ralph’s Reflection on 16th Sunday of Ordinary Time

The other day I was cloud gazing and observing how the shape of each cloud changed in accordance with the winds aloft, their speed, their direction of travel, and their density. Within this reflective moment, I was struck by the separation of each cloud with each other cloud. Completely free, like the God of Justice and the God of Mercy, talked about in the Book of Wisdom. There is this blending of being wrapped in a heightened relationship with “ADONAI,” developing like the clouds, blending into the constantly changing surroundings, yet allowing aspects of God’s present-presence – justice and mercy, to be one with another at the same time. It is just one way of adaptation to the current struggle with Covid-19, changing our normal and learning to walk a thin blue line.

  • Where in my life have I been made aware of God’s present-presence?
  • Looking back, can you remember a moment of day-dreaming that changed your outlook to see with a sharpened focus?
  • When have I witnessed the “pillar of fire and the cloud of day” [Ex 13: 21] guiding my journey?
