The Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Sunday, July 25, 2021
My Dear Friends in Christ,
We may be afraid to share what we have, because our minds are focused on uncertainties of the future. When we hold on to what we have and do not share, we aren’t trusting God. If the widow in the first reading had not listened to Elijah, the meal she was preparing would have been her last, and she and her son would have died.
On this Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Jesus is saying to us: I need your talent; I need your generosity; I need you – your feet, hands and voice. God has given each one of us what we need for the sake of all. If you don’t share, it will be taken away.
Spend some time with the offerings below from staff to prepare for Sunday Mass.

The Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Sunday, July 18, 2021
My Dear Friends in Christ,
God is Emmanuel – God with us. We may try to make Him fit our understanding of who He is, but not everyone is going to recognize Him in the same way. The Church is a vehicle that can help bring us to a fuller understanding of who Jesus is. Yet, it pains me to see how the Church drifts from its true purpose.
This Sunday we hear about Church leadership and a divided people. Paul was faced with a divided Church, but as a good shepherd he addressed the issue. The prophet Jeremiah says, “Woe to the shepherds who mislead and scatter the flock of my pasture, says the LORD” (Jer. 23:1). We Catholics need to ask ourselves: If I am firm in my beliefs, how will I fully accept the person with very different beliefs?
Spend some time with the offerings below from staff to prepare for Sunday Mass.
Anticipate Sunday, July 18

The Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Sunday, July 11, 2021
My Dear Friends in Christ,
On this Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, we think about how our way of life is a testimony to our faith. Just being baptized and receiving all of the other sacraments qualify one to be a Catholic. Evangelization is how we live our baptism promises every day.
You don’t need to have any theological training for you to evangelize – it’s a way of life. In today’s Gospel, Jesus sends His disciples to spread His word, instructing them to take nothing for the journey except a walking stick. Jesus wants His disciples to evangelize without prejudices and judgment. To whom are we called to evangelize?
Spend some time with the offerings below from staff to prepare for Sunday Mass.
Anticipate Sunday, July 11
- Mass Readings – In the scripture readings we hear that we are chosen and sealed with the promise of the Holy Spirit.
- Scripture Reflection – Jon Metz offers this reflection to help think about our own unique way to spread the Good News.
- Music – Doug presents the music menu for Sunday. In our readings and songs this week, we are called to spread the word of God. So let’s get out there!

The Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Sunday, July 4, 2021
My Dear Friends in Christ,
Happy Fourth of July! Today we celebrate the independence of the USA. We comprehend our freedom as the right to act, speak and think without hindrance or restraint. Some people still don’t have access to those freedoms, so we continue to have challenges ahead of us. Our readings today portray three figures who experienced challenges — Ezekiel, Jesus and St. Paul. Ezekiel and other prophets were rejected and so was the message they delivered. In today’s Gospel reading, we hear Jesus being rejected by His own people.
We all bear crosses in this life, whether they seem to be little thorns or sharp daggers. When St. Paul asked the Lord to remove his cross, the Lord replied, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” Through this explanation, St. Paul resolved to believe, “I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong.”
